Lauren Bittner discovers demons at the same time that making a sex tape in Paranormal Activity 3, forward Blu-ray January 24th
The highest grossing hatred film of 2011 is set to unleash its heinous ways on Blu-ray and DVD, at the same time that Paranormal Activity 3 comes home nearest Tuesday, January 24th. A prequel that finds young Katie and her sister Kristi coming in contact with the supernatural in spite of the first time, this crowd-agreeable thriller proved to be a bulky hit amongst fans and critics like when it took theaters by disturbance back in October.
To celebrate the upcoming home video free, we chatted with the talented and to a high degree beautiful Lauren Bittner, who plays mom to sum of ~ units young daughters terrorized by an undiscovered demon. For her thoughts on structure a sex tape, the impact event like this might have on a veritable mother's life, and her expectations as being the recently announced Paranormal Activity 4, unravel our conversation below.
I over heard you talking relating to Paranormal Activity 4. Do you be under the necessity any idea where that story efficiency be going? Are you going to have ~ing involved at all?
Lauren Bittner: I dress in't want to touch that. I don't know where that is going, and I slip on't even want to speak without interrupti~ it. Because they've got this covered. They apprehend exactly how to do it. Even on the supposition that they don't know where the recital is going, yet, necessarily...Whether or not Julie is a function of it is a complete riddle to me. I have no model.
When we see Julie and Dennis formation a sex tape in 1988, that predates Rob Lowe's atrocious sex tape scandal of 1989 ~ means of a whole year, which kicked right hand the whole sex tape fad of the after the proper time 80s. This couple, Julie and Dennis, they are positively forward thinking individuals...
Lauren Bittner: They are innovators! (Laughs) The creature about that scene, at the extreme point of the day...Moms and dad, boyfriends and girlfriends...Even if you consider kids, you are still human. You're low vulnerable. You still take chances. So, with regard to me, it was like...Julie is temper enough to be a good mom, and to quiet have a great time. That's to what extent I made sense of that view. I didn't think too plenteous about them being forward thinkers. Looking back on it, yeah, Julie was pretty progressive...
It would be fun, in undivided of the upcoming sequels, to be obliged someone here in 2012, find any of Julie and Dennis' sex tapes at a Good Will. They are attention it, and they see the guardian spirit in the back ground...
Lauren Bittner: That would be pretty amazing. Sex and a guardian spirit. It's like finding two by reason of the price of one!
In terms of the horror genre, moms usually memorize the short shrift. But Paranormal Activity 3 gives Julie a completely fleshed out character. Was that ever on the page, or did you guys bring out her through the process of shooting which was, from what I understand, a mainly improvised script?
Lauren Bittner: It was sumptuous. I was so fortunate and favorable that they really wanted to inquire into the character of Julie. She is at one interesting point in her life. More such than, maybe, if she were a twenty year original mom, or a forty year fertile mom. She is still young, to this time she has all these responsibilities. You are young and fresh and you still have all of this bottom. But you have to control a domestic. That is a really interesting impute to be in life. I'm glad they allowed for that. I didn't know, at the start, where the Julie striking qualities was going to go. I dress in't think anybody knew. Things were changing through each day. I was just fortunate enough that they wanted to learn to a greater degree about Julie, and through that, I got to learn besides about her. Which was pretty illustrious. I like her.
I haven't gotten a fortuitous event to see the supplemental materials put ~ the Blu-ray yet. Are there any extra Julie scenes? Did you come by to participate in an audio commentary, or anything like that?
Lauren Bittner: I obtain to tell you....I just accepted a copy of it. What I maxim, there were no extras that included me. But...There is a whole second disc worthy of stuff that I asylum't gotten to see yet. I understand there is a whole other prominent part that I wasn't able to trifle, because I didn't have the Blu-ray capabilities at the time. I perceive there is a lost tape trait. But I haven't watched it yet. I'm kind of excited to discern what is on there! I'm jazzed in all parts of it.
This sequel was made through the two directors behind Catfish. That was supposedly a absolute documentary, but a lot of the many the crowd have accused Catfish of being fake. Here these guys are afresh, making what looks like a veritable documentary. But we know for a act that it is a fake. How does the course of shooting a film like this, the same that is intended to look like a substantive documentary, change your perspective, if at completely, as an actor?
Lauren Bittner: Hopefully, laboring on something like this makes me more useful at what I do. Whenever you are action, you have to believe it. You require to believe what you are selling and the kind of you are saying. The process of shooting a movie like this didn't vary anything for me. Because I wanted it to be rooted in as much reality like possible. Whether or not the state of affairs were actually occurring, I thought it was momentous to bring vulnerability, and as much humanity, to it as possible. So that the bulk of mankind could relate to it. And skip into it as if this could as luck may have it be happening. That's the elucidation to these movies. People are at all times looking over their shoulder saying, "This could take place." Or they're saying, "This did turn up to me. These things do take place in my house." For me, it was on the point creating a world in which that seemed likely. To myself, and the people who puissance be watching. The directors really helped through that. They are so curious...So you be proper for curious, too. "What will happen whether or not we turn this corner?" You not at any time really know, do you?
Did they always throw anything your way in the middle of scene that you weren't expecting?
Lauren Bittner: Oh, quite the time. All the time! Please, some days, I felt like it was "Let's terrify Lauren" day. But at that, they were highly respectful towards my acting. They were main. They would always throw things my mode of dealing that I wasn't expecting. My reactions gave them a cachinnate or two at times.
Over the finally ten or twelve years, these faux-documentary, mould-footage thrillers have become more and greater quantity prominent at the box office. I've nuncupative with some older actors, who can't quite grasp the skill firm of acting as though they're life captured in real-time. Its agree of a whole new angle to the deceitfulness of acting that younger actors be required to now have. Its an acting appellation that demands a lack of theatricality..
Lauren Bittner: Yeah. I entertain an idea of it is a different style. For me...I be possible to't speak for other actors...But I design it's always important to exist as real and believable as possible. I think that's the guide. To make people forget, for a essential circumstance, that you are even in a movie. But I definitely reckon that it's a different manner. I think that it is stripped in a descending course. It's no fuss. You be the subject of to be willing to look certain. And look ugly. Not that veritable is ugly. But you have to put to hire down your guard. You have to have existence willing to be seen in a manner...That maybe you're not seen in every other genre of filmmaking. I certainly plot you need to be seen in the highroad you are putting yourself out in that place. But in these movies, there is less between you and the audience. It is highly stripped down.
Did you think in various places which horror movies Julie may bear seen in her own life, in front of all of this happened to her?
Lauren Bittner: What fear movies she'd seen? No, I never did...That is a great debate. That is something I will be thinking about...For me, it was greater quantity thinking about what she'd been end in her life. The burden that she is carrying, sentient a young mother, having to trick everything. For me, that was the cast ~, from the very beginning. But that is a excellent, great question...
Its like, with my mom. She'd bring forth Showtime on in the background in the 80s. She would have ~ing bits and pieces of all these fright movies that we'd watched considered in the state of kids. But she didn't unavoidably watch them herself. It was background sound while she got the house in degree, or made dinner. Like, Poltergeist. She listened to that who knows by what mode many times. But would it form her better at dealing with the site? The mom is not like the kids in Scream. A mom ability not have the genre suave that tribe expect in horror movies in this ~light and age...
Lauren Bittner: Right. Exactly. I am without doubt that Julie has seen pieces of those movies. Dennis is probably the one that can quote quite of the horror movies, but Julie to all appearance had them going on in the background of her life. She had definitely soaked in some of that. No one has for~ asked me about that before. It's a positively good question.
You and your steady-screen boyfriend Christopher Nicholas Smith bring forth such great chemistry together in this remarkably real environment. For a faux-documentary so as this, was the process of rehearsing, and getting to know each other, different than some of the previous movies you'd worked ~ward?
Lauren Bittner: Christopher Nicholas Smith is awe-inspiring. The funny thing is, Chris and I met in to a great height school. We'd actually done a gambler together. When we walked into the audition, we were like, "Oh, hi!" It was in the same state a coincidence. So there is that. Right at a distance, we had that hometown rapport. He is exhilarated, and kind. And so supportive. He and I would utter about things in the morning. We'd take for granted, "This is what we need to be sufficient today!" We'd figure it the whole of out. He was very ready ~ the sake of anything. Which made me want to pass by a leap right in there with him.
Having watched Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman's Catfish, I acquire to wonder how much of a coincidence that actually was, the fact that you the pair went to the same high indoctrinate. Do you think they may get done some research on you guys in front of hand? That would fit their side view as directors...
Lauren Bittner: I consider no idea...I wouldn't urge it past them to know a 2,240 pounds. They are super smart. But I dress in't think they knew this over us. Chris and I did give notice to them of our past during the audition continued movement. I think it was one of those things. Even granting that we hadn't met in transcendental school, we would have had a indigenous, easy chemistry. I find him self-same easy to be around...But, you be assured of? I don't know. That is some interesting point I haven't speculation about. I have no idea which goes on with these guys...
Did you remark Catfish?
Lauren Bittner: Look, I did not discern these guys at all before material the movie. I watched Catfish solely after the whole process had started. I felt like I should win educated. I actually watched the movie space of time on a plane flight out to carry on a screen test for Paranormal Activity 3. I was past its prime away. I found it so entertaining. It was so compelling, I couldn't tarry watching it. I personally didn't care...People kept declaration, "Is this real, or isn't it?" I in fact didn't' care about that. I equitable thought it was brilliant. These guys are surprising. But no, I did not understand them before taking this on.
Did watching the movie change your perception of them at completely?
Lauren Bittner: Um...It didn't. Because I pure got to know them as my directors. I didn't be sure them as anything else. Other than that. Even notwithstanding that I saw the movie before we as a matter of fact shot anything, I felt like they were unexampled to this experience. Because I had nullity to compare it to. Like with Chris, I felt comfortable with them just away. They were really easy going.
Last inquiry. Watching the movie today...Do you have the consciousness of being you would or wouldn't act again the way Julie does to the things that befall in Paranormal Activity 3?
Lauren Bittner: I deem it's a bit of the couple. There were times when I felt since though I reacted as any regular mother would. Then there were state of things when I stepped back, and I realized this wasn't me...This was Julie, and Dennis, and these sum of ~ units girls...This is the circumstances that they are trade with...I think it was a in some degree bit of both. Ultimately, hopefully my reactions came from a mansion that many mothers could relate to. That was my goal.
